ASEAN
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
How are you, friends? Do you feel well? If so, Praise to Allah. Today, I would like to share about ASEAN. For your information, Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN 2015 reached its pinnacle with successful conclusion of the 27th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits on yesterday, 22 November 2015. What is ASEAN?
The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a 10-member international body that represents more than 500 500 million people living in the region. Set up in August 8, 1967 in Bangkok by Thailand. Starting with only five member countries namely Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand itself. It grew when Brunei joined in January 7, 1984, Vietnam on July 28,1995, Laos and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 16 December 1998 to complete the expansion of membership, 10 countries as members of the ASEAN countries today (UTUSAN ONLINE). The ASEAN motto is “ONE VISION, ONE IDENTITY, ONE COMMUNITY”. Each of the 10 rotating members as Chairman for a period of one year. The ASEAN Summit was an annual affair until 2009, when leaders began meeting twice a year. Member countries take turns every year to chair the two meetings. The ASEAN has three pillars that support their aspirations.
1) Political and security
2) Economic
3) Socio-cultural
These three pillars are depending on each other and cannot be ignored at all. The main thing is to ensure that it is able to maintain the solidarity and empowerful confidence, particularly in reaching mutual agreement and remain non-interference in the affairs of member states. Other than that, it will also help the human rights issues that are being faced by several member countries and also find new approaches to address current issues such as disasters, haze, and cybercrime.
That's all from me! Thank you!
